BlogDeep-Dive Into Diamonds This April

The diamond: it’s perhaps the easiest stone to talk about but also arguably the most complex. Most would agree that the diamond is the most famous gemstone on the planet. Did you know that the largest diamond was over 3,100 carats when mined, and the smallest is so small it can be lost on a fingernail? It’s true – the versatility of this stone is truly amazing!

The pinnacle of diamonds was the Cullinan Diamond. It was the world’s biggest at over 3,100 carats when it was mined, and was subsequently cut into several stones, including one 530ct stone now set in Queen Elizabeth II’s crown. The same mine produced several other famous stones, including the Elizabeth Taylor/Burton stone.

Not only do diamonds come in different sizes, but they also come in different cuts, colors, and grades. And even within all that, there are many other nuances and details that can affect value. It is here that the diamond truly becomes the mystery stone it is today, as there are so many factors affecting it that true comparison is a lot more difficult than you may think.

At HPerry Jewelers, we know our diamonds and can guide you through all the factors affecting your purchase. In fact, we could write a book on selecting a diamond, but the truth is that the best way for us to help you select and purchase exactly what you’re looking for is to invite you into the store to discuss this most complex, beautiful and alluring stone. Let us guide you through types of stone, certifications, and even factors, such as fluorescence and refraction.

Generally, large, center stones get the attention – this is, after all, the most common type of engagement ring – but it’s worth remembering that diamonds are not only for engagement rings. Classic diamond earring studs, intricate tennis bracelets and stunning diamond pendants are also hugely popular, as is flanking a colored gemstone with diamonds to allow the contrast between the stones to literally “pop” out of the piece, giving a dazzling display of color and light. Think about any of these gifts when shopping for any April babies in your life this month. They are arguably the luckiest of us all, since their birthstone is the diamond!

With all this in mind, we have a huge selection of diamond jewelry and an incredible custom design service that allows you to deep-dive into stones and settings. You can truly build a technical piece of history with a custom piece, where each part of the piece tells a story.

We know you have questions and we have all the answers! We are your diamond experts and will ensure you get exactly what you want!
